Here are two simple recipes to make with your family this winter. 

 Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yields 3 dozen cookies

 

Ingredients 

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks salted butter, room temperature
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips 

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. 
  4. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between each addition.
  5. On low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Place 2 tablespoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in the oven for 7-9 minutes.
  9. Let it sit on the tray for 1 minute to cool.  
  10. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Layered Cookie Bar

Yields 2 to 3 dozen bars

 

Ingredients 

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup of butter
  • 14 ounces ( 1 can ) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch-flavored chocolate chips
  • 1 ⅓ cups flaked coconut 
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit 
  2. In a small bowl, combine the  graham cracker crumbs and butter 
  3. Press crumb mixture firmly onto a baking pan
  4. Pour the sweetened condensed milk on top of the gram cracker layer and repeat layering ingredients 
  5. Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned
  6. Cool and cut into bars
