The month of May is National  Military  appreciation month. In May, everyone around the world celebrates and appreciates the sacrifices of all United States armed forces. All these forces include the Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Special days are recognized as we celebrate the military. These days include VE Day, Armed Forces Day, Military Spouses Day, and Memorial Day.

What is the Military?

For those who don’t know, many people join the military for their job. The military is made up of hand picked individuals who are classified as the armed forces of the country. Many people join the military for various reasons, but the main reason is they want to serve their country.

Why we honor the Military?

When we honor all national military forces, we honor their service, guard and reserve members, and veterans. All these forces fight for our country and without them if we would go to war, we would have no protection. These people choose to sacrifice their lives so others can live normally. We honor and appreciate the military because they help maintain peace and stability in regions critical to the U.S. interests and underwrite U.S. defense commitments around the world. This month is important because Americans reflect on all the sacrifices made by soldiers, sailors, and all current and former military personnel.

Who started National Military Appreciation Month?

In 1999, Senator John McCain introduced the idea to designate May as National Military Appreciation Month. Later that year both the senate and the House of Representatives adopted this.

To celebrate all our veterans, everyone around the world does certain things. For example, on veterans and Memorial Day, most people around the world get together and have barbecues or cookouts to honor the people who served in our country. Other people do small things like send cards or buy gifts for their veterans.

Examples of people we appreciate in the military would be the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard
